TCSC 2nd Elected Chair Position Statements - Dr. Laurence Yang, 2008-2009

As the Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC) has already emerged as one of the most successful TCs within the IEEE Computer Society, it is important to maintain that leadership and at the same time create new innovative programs to further enhance for the benefit of its members and the overall community.

A Compilation of Discussion on Parallel Languages by Greg Pfister, IBM

1.     Greg Pfister, IBM, <pfister at ibm.com> initiated the discussion by posting the following:

Does anybody have a pointer to a history of parallel and/or concurrent languages? Unfortunately, this is a time-critical request; I need to give a talk on it in a week (company internal, but I'll of course share what I'm helped on with the community). There are a number of computer histories I can find; for example, Gregory V. Wilson's was particularly useful, but it mostly ignores languages. There are sites that do list many languages -- "Nan's Parallel Computing Page", Jonathan Hardwick's list of research groups, and the Internet Parallel Computing Archive, for example. But they tend to simply list efforts in alphabetical order, and seldom provide dates and origination information. Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks. Greg Pfister IBM Distinguished Engineer, Member IBM Academy of Technology.
